A quick bit of news & press releases I’ve popped up elsewhere. As always, clicky for the full article!
Total Recall lets you “Rekall”
When Ah-nold said “I’ll be back”, he probably didn’t realize his movies would be coming back too. So far the first go at re-doing his oeuvre hasn’t exactly been a genre classic (Conan? Single-handedly flushed Jason Momoa’s breakout chances down the loo. Pity.)
But things are looking up with the new spin on Total Recall; the trailer looks like they’re getting it right this time. Plus, having tried-and-true big screen actors like Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Bryan Cranston doesn’t hurt.
Wanna get in on the Recall action? Well, there may not be an app for that (yet), but there’s definitely a game you can check out….
Jim Starlin comes to Baltimore Comic-Con
Yet another biggie in the comics world is headed to Baltimore this September. Did you love the ending of The Avengers? Yeah, me too. So getting to chat with the creator of the next Big Bad? Niiiiiice.

Angelina Jolie is feeling evil as Malificent
Angelina Jolie has a love for the, well, complicated ladies. Evelyn Salt (glad to see there’s a Salt 2 in the mix), The Tourist‘s Elise, Grendel’s momma in Beowulf, and of course her Oscar-winning turn as Lisa in Girl, Interrupted. She’s upping the evil as Sleeping Beauty’s nemesis in Malificent.
Gotta say that I was amazed and scared pantsless by this particular witchy queen. Best evil hairdo ever? yeah, you better believe it. Plus, she could transform into one badass dragon; that’s pretty top-notch.

The Nominees for the 2012 Harvey Awards
Okay comic book guys and dolls, the day is here; the Harvey Awards nominees have been announced, and it’s a great crop this year. Winners, as always, will be announced at this year’s Baltimore Comic-Con September 8th. Need another reason to attend? There you go. You’re welcome.
I’m excited to see Pearls Before Swine, Mutts, get nods for Synicated Strip or Panel, Ozma of Oz (a favorite story of mine from my kiddie days) get a Best New Series nod, and the amazaing work of Drawn & Quarterly on the American edition of Onward Toward Our Noble Deaths. And hey wait — did a United States Government publication get a Harvey Award nod? Yep; Preventive Maintenance Monthly is so cool it almost makes me wanna sign up…almost.
I’ll leave it at that, otherwise I’ll never get on with announcing the nominees….
