The Words, and the new world of promotion

Part of what I love about writing about movies is the access I get to their marketing campaigns.  Sure, I love free swag anytime I can get it (nothin’ but love, SDCC!), but I am fascinated by how studios get the word out.  With today’s social networking it’s even more amazing.

And example?  Sure, got one right here; the coming-soon film The Words, starring Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Irons, Dennis Quaid, Olivia Wilde and Zoe Saldana.  I saw the trailer for this a few months back and was intrigued by the premise: a man steals another’s work and passes it off as his own, with results being well, what you’d expect.  Could be a watershed role for Cooper, and I’d love tos ee Wilde and Saldana get some ac-tor props as well.

This film goes beyond words with their marketing campaign, using Pinterest and Tumblr as ways to get the message of their film across.  It’s a brilliant move, one I’ll bet more films will be using as these two sites become more mainstream.

So check their Pinterest and Tumblr feeds…and also check out the trailer if you haven’t already done so.  Why here ’tis right now.
