Are you one of those folks that hates Valentine’s Day? Well, you’re not alone. Hey, dont’ look at me; as far as I’m concerned it’s Half-Price Candy Day Eve, so all’s well with the world. But if you’re trying to strike the right kind of Bite Me chord this coming VD, a film that crossed my inbox may do the trick. They had me at “[r]eminiscent of Roger Corman’s Slumber Party Massacre“, y’all.
Chastity Bites sounds like a good time, and I love the “Countess Bathory as High-school Abstinence Educator” spin. Sounds like this film is definitely winking to the audience. Do I sense a drinking game, y’all? I’ll get right on that.
And who knew it was Women In Horror Month? Honestly, I don’t know what I do with my time. (Okay, I do; I waste it. Beautifully.) But now that I know, I plan on celebrating it to the fullest. Bring forth Night of the Comet and Return of the Living Dead — WIHM demands a Scream Queen retrospective!
Read on for the full Chastity Bites press release, including a great synopsis. Hey, if you can’t bite the one you love, bite the one you’re with. Amirtite people?
Sink Your Teeth Into “Chastity Bites” Starring Allison Scagliotti & Francia Raisa
Available On February 11 DVD from Grand Entertainment
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Grand Entertainment Group (GEG) wants YOU to celebrate “Women in Horror” month this February with the DVD release of CHASTITY BITES on February 11. The horror-comedy, which has been slaying festival audiences and has been praised by media, is created by a team of strong and vibrant women including writer/producer Lotti Pharriss Knowles, co-producer Wendi Mirabella and executive producer/lead actress Allison Scagliotti (Syfy’s “Warehouse 13”).
Directed by John V. Knowles (SHADOW.NET), the film stars Francia Raisa (ABC Family’s “Secret Life of the American Teenager”);Louise Griffiths (“The Revenant”); Amy Okuda (“The Guild”); Sarah Stouffer (“Bloomington”); Lindsey Morgan (ABC’s “General Hospital”); Laura Niemi (FX’s “Justified”); Eddy Rioseco (ABC’s “Parenthood”); Jennifer Gimenez (Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”); Greer Grammer (MTV’s “Awkward.”); and Stuart Gordon (“Re-Animator”).
The film tells of Countess Elizabeth Bathory, who in the 1600’s, slaughtered more than 600 young women, believing if she bathed in the blood of virgins that she would stay young and beautiful forever. Still alive today, she’s found a perfect hunting ground for her “Botox” as an abstinence educator at a high school in red state America. But will a brave, young feminist blogger and journalist for the school paper finally put an end to the Blood Countess’s reign of terror and save her best friend from being the next victim?
“What drew me to CHASTITY BITES is that my character (Leah) is a strong, smart individual” says Allison Scagliotti. “I love that this movie sends such a positive message to young women about friendship and individuality, and that conformity is not ultimately the most rewarding avenue.” “As a lifelong horror fan and feminist, my idea with CHASTITY BITES was to create a movie that combined the best of those two worlds. Some people think of the horror genre as misogynistic,” says Lotti Pharris Knowles. “However it has a rich history of strong female characters who must do battle with evil, often alone — and who usually triumph!”
“CHASTITY BITES is not your average horror-comedy,” states David Rand, President of Grand Entertainment. “Reminiscent of Roger Corman’s “Slumber Party Massacre”, the film is sure to be a cult classic naturally combining retro elements, modern wit and a unique sense of style, which will leave an indelible impression for any film lover.”
The DVD will include bonus features and will be available at most major retailers, Amazon.com and on GEG’s website for $19.98 MSRP.
