We all know how we nerds love to dress up for cons. It’s the law I think. Or at least it should be. At this year’s Awesome Con though, there’s gonna be more to it. They’re calling for all cosplayers to head to the US Capitol Reflecting Pool for the “Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Comic Book Characters”. I know, right? Way cool.
Even if you don’t Cos, it’ll be great to show up and check out the awesome costumes. And if you’re thinking about going as BeerMan, think again; Guinness has a list of approved costumes for World Record consideration. Don’t have a costume at the ready? No problem, it’s still easy-peasy to fit in. Ladies; throw on a cool black hat, black tank/cami & jeans (throw on a black cardi if it’s cold), heavy eyeliner and an ahnk, and show up as Death! And fellas how about grabbing a trench coat, white shirt, black tie & khakis for John Constantine (don’t forget the spiked up hair & real/fake cigarette)? Perfect!
Mark your calendars; April 18th, 2014 at noon. So, are you gonna be there or what?

CALLING ALL SUPERHEROES…
The Museum of Science Fiction, the world’s first comprehensive science fiction museum, and Awesome Con are inviting costumed superheroes to Washington, DC on April 18, 2014, in an attempt to break a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® record. This attempt for the Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Comic Book Characters will happen at the U.S. Capitol Reflecting Pool at noon, just hours before the start of Awesome Con 2014 at the Washington Convention Center.
Many attendees at Awesome Con and other similar conventions dress in superhero-style costumes, a practice known as cosplay. To celebrate the start of Awesome Con, we invite you to help us break the current record set at World Joyland in China: 1,530 people dressed as comic book characters. We know we can break that record and mark Washington, DC as THE CAPITAL CITY OF COSPLAY.
An adjudicator from GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS will be on hand to count and qualify all costumed participants. The guidelines state that the characters must have first appeared in comic books, partial costumes will not be counted, and that costumes can’t be shared between two or more participants. Please click here for the PRE-APPROVED CHARACTER LIST from GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS, and all the details. Tell your friends! Invite your neighbors! Bring the kids – we know it’s Spring Break for a lot of locals, so throw some superhero fun into your schedule! We can’t wait to see 1,531 awesome superheroes in front of the U.S. Capitol!
