The gang’s all here for the “Independence Day: Resurgence” Global Press event

IDR_1920_BG_rgbI love Independence Day.  Yes, even though the aliens are IBM compatible.  As crazy-cool CGI popcorn wonderland, it works for me. So I’m excited and not a little bit nervous about the upcoming sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence. But the studio managed to gather together a slew of the original cast, which makes me happy.  I even see Brent Spiner, whom I’d assumed met a grisly end at the…hands?…of the aliens in ID4Perhaps he’s coming back as Data? Ooooh!

The cast and crew held a “global press event” yesterday, and you can catch all the pertinents on the livestream.  The money shot from this event is the “Moon Tug”, a craft cobbled together from alien tech. It looks like the love child of Ripley’s work-loader and an AT-AT.  I can’t wait to see it throw down…

Here’s the basic movie 411:

We always knew they were coming back.  After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale.  Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet.  But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force.  Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women  can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Director: Roland Emmerich
