CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners!!!

Best Motion Picture, Drama – The Power of the Dog: Blew. Me. Away. Stiff competition in this category, and I’d have been happy to have seen any of the nominated films take the bag. But last year, Dog detonated my brain cells like no other.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama – Will Smith (“King Richard”) : I’d said this was an Oscar bait performance, and I did not lie. Though Washington and Cumberbatch were big front runners as well, Smith’s performance is the kind of stellar, everyman type that the Globes was bound to recognize.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy – Andrew Garfield (“Tick, Tick … Boom!”): It’s the Garfield-aissance, and I’m fine with it. Between this performance and Spider-Man? More please. Thank you.

Best Director, Motion Picture – Jane Campion (“The Power of the Dog”): Another tight race filled with excellent choices. But Campion doing Campion is always amazing.

Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture – Kodi Smit-McPhee (“The Power of the Dog”): Great understated performance, but I seriously thought a Belfast performance would have made the cut here. Did they cancel each other out? Perhaps. Not mad, just curious.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Drama – Michaela Jaé Rodriguez (“Pose”): Damn girl. This wasn’t a performance, this was perfection. Justly deserved.

Best Performance by an Actor, Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture made for Television – Michael Keaton (“Dopesick”): Though I haven’t seen this show yet, I had to stop everything to say that Keaton can still get it. Talented, funny, and good looking? Yes please.

Best Supporting Actor, Television – O Yeong-su (“Squid Game”): I loved this character. I hated this character. I loved hating him, and ultimately hated loving him. Now that’s a performance.

Best Original Score, Motion Picture – “Dune” (Warner Bros.) — Hans Zimmer: Hanz THE MAN Zimmer. Enough said. Though again, while this category was packed with excellent choices, Zimmer. Zimm-ER.

Best Original Song, Motion Picture – “No Time to Die” from “No Time to Die” (MGM/United Artists Releasing) — Billie Eilish, Finneas O’Connell: Loved it. Called it. Excellent blending of story and music.

Best Motion Picture, Animated – “Encanto” (Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures): I mean seriously. Was there any other way to go? Yeah there was; the voters could have chosen another film. But this one was the obvious winner.

Now I’m off to do what everyone else is doing – using the Globes winners list as this week’s streaming queue.
