Story: rednecks go out hunting while toking. But their “Creeper” was radioactive, turning them into…. Yeah, you’ve got it. Soon, every toker in the area is down with the sickness.

Scares: This is a Troma film. Trust me, there’s nary a scare.

Splat Factor: Craptastic special effects that makes stuff I do on PicMonkey look like ILM, fake innards that look like the Halloween stuff you can buy at the dollar store, and zombie makeup that is smudgy & unevenly applied. Yeah it’s there, but whatevs. Cool bit with suspension art bit, tho’.

Shock Ending?: Only if you’re baked.

Remake, Sequel or OG (Original Ghoul)?: Pot Zombies? Seriously? Yeah, it’s original. Though to be honest it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a sequel in the works. Oh look!

Trick or Treat?:

This is like the house that gives kids pot brownies for Halloween. Bad idea, but could be fun if you’re able to just be cool. Kind of a Kentucky Fried Movie vibe, with the random edits, crazy joint animation and fourth-wall text. It’s the 21st Century Reefer Madness. Just as stupid, just as much fun. At least Pot Zombies does their shit on purpose.

See? Troma cares about you.

My best guess is that this is a film that would scare stoners shitless. Anyone else? Hah. It’s really just an excuse to film folks getting their weed on. And for a little gratuitous nudity (the girl-on-girl-becoming-girl-on-zombie action? Cool. The stoner dude playing his guitar naked? I will never be able to unsee.)

So, if this Grade Z film/student production is such a suckfest, why bother? Because I kinda have a soft spot for Troma Pictures. This company is like a throwback to the old 60s exploitation films. You’ve gotta give Troma props for sheer audacity. Plus, this movie comes in at under an hour, so it doesn’t overstay it’s welcome. If you’re an end credits scenes fan like me, keep it playing…but know this: there’s some close-ups from the suspension scene.

Don’t blame me if you have the munchies after this movie. Total contact high bro.
