You know I love me some post-apocalyptic stuff. Zombies, plague, YA love stories, whatever. It’s what comes of reading The Stand when you’re 12. So when I saw R.E.E.P.E.R. Men on Kickstarter, I decided to take the plunge. And yes, I’ll be giving you my review once I get my grubbies on my Kindle copy.
What’s R.E.E.P.E.R. Men, you ask? Here’s the synopsis from the creators:
Ongoing comic book series depicts life in the year 2050 as a dark and secretive organization places all citizens on two lists to control overpopulation and the drastic depletion of natural resources.
On February 4, 2048, Dr. Konnick Stiffe, a former CIA Phantom hitman, and three unlikely associates formed the R.E.E.P.E.R. organization to help control consumption by reducing the world population. Members were secretly recruited based on their profession, knowledge of humanity, and wealth. Some recruiting members were murdered for reasons which remain a mystery. Two years later, the now 128 member organization sanctioned two lists (the Safe List and the Expunge List) as the heart of their governance, with all citizens of this world unknowingly listed. On the Safe List, a citizen lives a normal life with no threat from R.E.E.P.E.R. On the Expunge list, a citizen is considered evil and authorization is given for them to be killed or removed from this planet. Execution of this task is carried out by the combat squad (3 superhuman individuals enhanced with futuristic abilities) known as R.E.E.P.E.R. Men. With no knowledge of the organization’s dark past or true agenda, R.E.E.P.E.R. Men’s lives will be changed forever.
Remove Every Evil Person Entity Reserve – R.E.E.E.P.E.R. Men
I’m intrigued by this mythology; it’s like The Purge meets Soylent Green meets superheroes (super-anti-heroes?) I also like that the R.E.E.P.E.R. Men don’t know their true agenda, which could open up the plot to all kinds of maleficence. Here’s hoping it’s a groovy ride!
R.E.E.E.P.E.R. Men issue #1 hits ComiXology at the end of this month. There’s a music video on YouTube that won’t exactly be praised for it’s high production values (fledgling business y’all), but has a cool twist that I enjoyed. They will be shooting a new music video this weekend, entitled “I Hear They Coming” which they promise will be “riveting”. Sounds good to me.
Plus, I dig their art, and love the red skull/business suit look of the R.E.E.P.E.R.s. Here’s hoping there’s tons of horror mixed in with the superhero reaping/expunging!
