“Don’t look! You mustn’t look.”
Story: WWII London. Bomb strikes = taking refugee children to the country. What could possibly get them up there? Cue ghost woman!
Scares: A few, of course jump-out or pop-up variety. Boo!
Splat factor: hardly any, unless you count the WWII hospital scenes.
Closing scene “shocker”?: Yes. AKA “it never ends”. Yeah yeah. We know. Yawn. Oh yeah; for those of you that didn’t figure out that gobsmacker? SPOILER ALERT.
Remake, Sequel or OG (Original Ghoul)?: Sequel to Woman in Black, naturally. Not nearly as good.
Trick or Treat?: The opening scene in WWII London, is amazing. You see the devastation of the city after a German air strike. Pulls you into the horror and destruction of the time better than most “real war” films. Unfortunately, the film tapers off from there.
A combination of tedious plot and tired clichés do in this film. Pity, as the art direction, costuming and set design is top notch.
I’d say more, but honestly? Angel of Death feels like a cash-grab with quality art direction. Pity, as the original film is pretty sweet.
Score: 2.5 out of 5 pumpkins. Doesn’t completely suck, but I’d only watch it again if it was background noise at a party.
