This year has been an embarrassment of riches in all categories of hair and makeup, from contemporary to period to character (and sometimes a mix of all three…) Penny Dreadful, The Walking Dead, The Knick, Masters of Sex, Key and Peele, Astronaut Wives Club, American Horror Story, Vikings…and I’m just gettin’ started with the TV nominees this year. For film, nominees include Ex Machina, The Danish Girl, Mad Max: Fury Road (a film that cleaned up on Oscar noms earlier today), Spectre, and Spy. Yeah, Guild members have their work cut out for them this year. I’d love to be a fly on the wall to hear how some of the members decide.
I’m surprised that Hamilton didn’t make the cut for hairstyling in a theatrical production…but with nominees like One Night With Janis Joplin, Spamalot and The Ghosts of Versailles, I’ma let that pass. Plus, my favorite high-school guilty pleasure, Days of our Lives, got a double-nod for daytime TV hair styling. Can’t hate that.
Winners will be announced February 20th, 2016 at Paramount Studios. And as always, I’ll be pining away that evening, wishing I was there to clap my hands off for the winners. Oh, probably for the best; I’d faint dead away if I ever got to meet the awesome talent that is Greg Nicotero…

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Nominees for the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards (MUAHS, IATSE Local 706) in 23 categories honoring make-up artists and hair stylists outstanding achievements in motion pictures, television, commercials and live theater were announced today by MUAHS President Sue Cabral-Ebert. Winners will be revealed during the black-tie annual MUAHS Guild Awards ceremony, hosted by comedian Loni Love, on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Paramount Studios. M.A.C. Cosmetics is the official host of the cocktail party.
“We are so excited to receive a record number of entries for our crafts from all over the world,” said Cabral-Ebert. “The enthusiastic response of the entertainment community and our members is remarkable. We are proud of our talented nominees and the work that was submitted this year represents the finest of our crafts.”
