Bullying, whether it be against the student that “doesn’t fit in”, someone who’s different from the rest of the pack, or simply because of how she dresses, is never okay. So I’m glad to see a documentary that tackles the subject of slut shaming.

You Slut, directed by Rachel Mullins, takes a look at how slut shaming and victim shaming affect women, and how prevalent it is in this country.  From “whore-phobia” ( I love this term, coined by documentary interviewee Minnie Scarlet), to Kate Quigley, who got shamed by fellow comedians for putting pictures of herself up on her personal Instagram pages (“…[P]eople are gonna forget that you’re funny.”), to the ever-popular victim blaming, You Slut digs deep.

First Teaser Released for Controversial Documentary, YOU SLUT

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — You Slut, a feature length documentary, releases its first online teaser on February 17, 2016. The teaser can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/153729417

The film is being promoted across social media platforms with #youSLUTdoc. The Facebook fan page for You Slut has become an aggregator of global news regarding slut shaming and victim shaming. The film centers around two filmmakers as they peel back the layers of slut shaming heaped onto woman from all walks of life. Executive producer Jamie Noel (Jamie Noel Productions) & Director Rachel Ann Mullins began filming at Amber Rose’s Slut Walk in Downtown LA during late 2015. “Like many others, I have experienced the degrading practice first hand and it hurts. Our documentary, You Slut, exposes this issue and hopefully will help bring it to an end,” Jamie Noel told a reporter from Vh1 during an interview at Slut Walk.

You Slut is aptly titled as it’s just as controversial of a film as the name implies. The teaser features footage of Hollywood actresses Tiffany Haddish and Tess Broussard. As well as intimate interviews with award winning author Liz Crokin. Slut shaming experiences tend to be a secret one carries with them their whole lives. “The very first time I felt super [slut] shamed was when I tried to get a spot at a comedy show…” Tiffany Haddish revealed. The documentary will show the ramifications of slut shaming on these women’s lives among many others from around the world.

I’m doing my best as a first time director to seek out all different kinds of women sharing the commonality of shame and give them a louder voice than those trying to silence them,” explained Mullins.

You Slut is on schedule to premiere in early 2017. The filmmakers invite all to join the growing You Slut community on Facebook. Production updates plus behind the scenes photos will be posted weekly.

It never amazes me to see that the double standard still exists and people continue to perpetuate it…double standard pay, double standard regarding values.
