I put on a hoodie today. Yeah, it was a little chilly this morning, but could it be that I was scared warm-less by the holiday horror movies coming our way? I’m hoping for the latter y’all. Why? Because these film not only look interesting, they’ve got pretty decent pedigrees.
First up, Krampus. Liked Trick ‘r Treat? What horror fiend didn’t? Well, Krampus is brought to us by Michael Dougherty, the lovely man who gave us that chilly bit of Halloween horror. Synopsis for this Christmas creepy? Right here:
A boy who has a bad Christmas ends up accidentally summoning a Christmas demon to his family home.
I’m loving the casting of actors that can do serious and funny: Adam Scott, Toni Collette, Conchata Ferrell, David Koechner…and the mix of humor and horror. Brings me back to 80s slashers, when they let you relax your guard before the throwdown began. Peep the Krampus trailer while you’re at it.
Ready for part two?
That’d be A Christmas Horror Story. A “woven anthology” much like Trick ‘r Treat, the synopsis sounds pretty kickass:
Interwoven stories that take place on Christmas Eve, as told by one festive radio host: A family brings home more than a Christmas tree, a student documentary becomes a living nightmare, a Christmas spirit terrorizes, Santa slays evil.
This one’s directed by Grant Harvey, Steven Hoban and Brett Sullivan, who between them have worked on horror franchises Ginger Snaps and Saw, as well as Orphan Black, Darknet. Oh, and among the ensemble cast is a sweet newcomer named William Shatner. Give the kid a hand, willya?
Krampus hits theaters December 4th, but luckily, we won’t have to wait ’til December to feast our beadies on A Christmas Horror Story, as it comes to town October 2nd. Ho ho ho?
