Synched with the 31 Day Horror Movie Challenge
“Scary German guy is bitchin’!”
Story: Dracula needs an amulet to open up hell on earth. But a group of pint-sized horror nerds are ready for him. Even though Drac has Frankenstein, Wolf Man, Mummy, and Creature from the Black Lagoon on his side. Gear up, kids!
Scares: Not really, unless you’ve got a very low tolerance. Or you’re 5. This is pure monster fun, don’t expect to be frightened. Just enjoy.
Splat factor: None. This is monster madness in the 30s Universal mold. Yeah, there’s a definite 80s feel, but the splat is nonexistent.Closing scene “shocker”?: Nope.
Remake, Sequel or OG (Original Ghoul)?: There are the classic monsters, but this movie is an original.
Trick or Treat?: Yeah, this movie is basically kiddie fare. But let’s look at the specs: Stan Winston FX. Directed by Fred “Night of the Creeps” Dekker. A movie with Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolf Man, the Mummy, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. And it’s from ’87, which means plenty of retro goodness. (The score is especially groovy.)
I do love that most of the monsters here are really not evil, they’re either different, ostracized, or forced into it by circumstance. But Dracula is still all out evil. And who doesn’t love lines like “Wolfman’s got nards!”
Enjoy.
Score: 4.5 out of 5 pumpkins.

LOVE this movie! I remember seeing this in the theater. I have now shown it to my kids and they love it as much as I do!
