Elsewhere Review – BrewDog Elvis AF Non-alcoholic Near Beer

Mojo Nixon had it right y’all. Elvis is everything. Even beer! This non-alcoholic beer is the crazy (or rather, the sober) twin of Brewdog’s full-tilt BrewDog Elvis Juice. As with BrewDog’s Punk AF, this 0.5% ABV pour tastes like a pint that’ll get you hammered. Yet all you’ll get is the taste. Not too shabby, especially during hot and humid (#SouthernLife) summer days.

Elvishas a strong topnote of grapefruit the minute I popped the top on my can*. I love grapefruit. Seriously, it’s an obsession. So I got very excited. This beer has a quick-to-rise head that dissipates just as quickly, and a golden color with a touch of cloudiness you notice only if you’re staring at the stuff. (What?) And hello again, grapefruit – the nose here is pure Ruby Red sweetness. The taste is more pith than juice, with a bitterness that’s not off-putting, but wasn’t exactly what I’d expected from that initial sniff.

Grapefruit, pine, fruit, and water mix together on the taste buds. It’s easy to drink, but with a bit of hoppy zip that reminds you that this is in fact beer, regardless of the lack of alcohol. The sip isn’t particularly fizzy; that hits as it gets to the back of your tongue. That hoppy grapefruit goes down smooth, making me want another sip. And then another. You get the idea.

This beer would go with just about anything you’d want to sink your teeth into this summer. BBQ? Yep. Burgers and dogs? Yum. Chips and salsa? You bet. Corn on the cob, tomato salad, and cherries? Oh hellz yeah. Heck, I even popped a tin of smoked kippers, and guess what? Yeah you guessed it; it was a match with this Elvis. Though next time? I’ll go all out and pair it with a peanut butter and ‘nana sammich.

* An actual aluminum can, not my arse. Though with the way I adore grapefruit, I can understand if you got confused for a tic.
