Life is a terrifying sci-fi thriller about a team of scientists aboard the International Space Station whose mission of discovery turns to one of primal fear when they find a rapidly evolving life form that caused extinction on Mars, and now threatens the crew and all life on Earth.

Baltimore Screening Pass-palooza: CHiPs”!

I loved CHiPs when I was a kid.  Ponch and Jon were the coolest, and even now it’s fun anytime I see either one on TV. Since 22 Jump Street did so well with its comedic reboot, I’m hoping for the same for CHiPs.  Synopsis!

Jon Baker (Dax Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Michael Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles but for very different reasons.  Baker is a beaten up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together.  Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be an inside job—inside the CHP. The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done.  But with Baker’s bike skills combined with Ponch’s street savvy it might just work…if they don’t drive each other crazy along the way.

Shepard and Peña are a hoot, so watching them together?  Two treats in one?  Only one way to find out…let’s go see!

TrailerWatch: “Despicable Me 3” – Gru goes back to the dark side?

Probably for the cookies.  I hear they’re pretty good.  Synopsis!

The team who brought you Despicable Me and the biggest animated hits of 2013 and 2015, Despicable Me 2 and Minions, returns to continue the adventures of Gru, Lucy, their adorable daughters—Margo, Edith and Agnes—and the Minions.

Not too much 411 in there, but in the trailer we see a new nemesis – Benjamin Balthazar Bratt – and Gru’s twin brother Dru.  Look for the usual brotherly competition there, I’m guessing. Plus, MINIONS!  The Minions are just as cute as ever, and while Minions was fun to look at, it just wasn’t the same without Gru.

Despicable Me 3 hits theaters June 30th, 2017.  Ba-na-na!

TrailerWatch: “Wonder Woman” gets mythical in origin trailer

Who is Diana Prince?  Well, of course she’s Wonder Woman (SPOILER), but with so many different origin stories, it’s hard to keep track.  Was she made out of clay and brought to life by Hippolyta?  Was she the love child of Hippolyta and Zeus?  Or is she the God Killer, forged by Zeus himself?

The new trailer for Wonder Woman teases us with a “more than Amazon” story for Ms. Prince, and I’m digging it.

Wonder Woman lassos theaters in June.

Tale as old as time…and I’ve got passes y’all!  It’s the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, and if I can spoil my upcoming review a little bit because the press embargo has lifted?  I LOVED IT.  So you’re definitely gonna wanna get in this. Synopsis!

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs.

“Kong: Skull Island” – Kong gets monstrous in this excellent reboot

Nutshell: Outstanding FX, fantastic (if a bit too done-before) soundtrack, and a cast that makes you feel all the fear and wonder of being stranded on an island full of kaiju. A popcorn flick par excellence, even with a few bumpy Snidley Whiplash moments of villain characterization. All hail the King, indeed. Grade: A-

“What Imaginary Monster are you hunting now?”

Story: Picture it, 1973.  The Vietnam War was ending, and two scientists wander into a congressional office to ask for research funds.  Why?  Because there’s an island – Skull Island – that could house a monster.  Oh, and those troops you’re recalling?  Could we have a few please?  Just to be on the safe side, I’m sure things’ll be fine…

Genre I’d put it in: Kaiju Warz

Y’know, as much as I dig kaiju, I’d rather see ’em on the big screen than up close and personal-like.  So when I saw that Google was teaming up with Kong: Skull Island?  This sounded like a perfect pairing.  Wanna look around, from the comfort (AND SAFETY) of your own home?  Yeah baby, yeah you do.

A mysterious and otherworldly island, thought to be myth, was just revealed on Google Maps to celebrate the premiere of Kong: Skull Island and Local Guides get the first chance to explore this uncharted virtual world. On this rare occasion, you can even leave fantasy reviews.

SABAN’S POWER RANGERS follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Baltimore Comic-Con Throws a Spring Fling
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – March 3, 2017 – The Baltimore Comic-Con will be back again this year in the Inner Harbor’s Baltimore Convention Center on September 22-24, 2017, but as a special thank you to our fans, we’re throwing a Spring Fling.
What is a Spring Fling? If you were with us for our first show back in 2000, you’ll have a pretty good idea of what to expect. This will be a good old fashioned comic book show: rows and rows of comic book dealers from 6-8 states around the country with comics and collectibles from the ancient to the very modern…and we’re bringing in a few guests as well!

Harvey and Eisner award nominee Frank Cho launched his career as a comic strip artist at the University of Maryland-College Park student newspaper, penning University2, which was the predecessor of his creator-owned syndicated strip and comic series, Liberty Meadows. His body of work also includes Marvel Comics’ New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Shanna the She-Devil, New Ultimates, and X-Men: Schism, as well as Jungle Girl for Dynamite Entertainment. His recent work can be seen in BOOM! Studios’ Skybourne, and on covers from DC Comics’ Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman.

Long-time friend of the show, Harvey and Eisner Award nominee, and guest since our inception in 2000 (!), artist and writer Steve Conley has contributed to numerous comic titles, both printed and on-line. His Astounding Space Thrills was self-published, published by Image Comics, and collected as a trade paperback by IDW. He has been featured in titles such as JLA-Z from DC Comics, Star Trek: Year Four from IDW, and Michael Chabon’s Amazing Adventures of the Escapist from Dark Horse Comics. His creator-owned Bloop, is available through his online store in print or soft copy editions, and you can read his webcomic, The Middle Age, on his website.

John Gallagher is the award-winning artist and writer of graphic novels Buzzboy and Roboy Red (with Rich Faber). John teamed with sons Jack and Will to create a kids book, E.P.I.C. Bros., about two kids whose superhero dad is always out saving the world, and they pass the time using his gizmos for lovable mayhem. Jack and Will follow in the footsteps of big sister Katie, who teamed with her dad to create Zoey and Ketchup. John’s Buzzboy is back from American Mythology Productions in Buzzboy Go Digital Monster Mayhem, where he has also contributed to the recently relaunched Casper the Friendly Ghost and The Inspector. When not creating comics, John is executive director of Kids Love Comics (kidslovecomics.net) and works as art director for Ranger Rick magazine.

Mark Morales has established himself as one of the industry’s go-to inkers for major titles and events for the big publishers. He has inked a vast number of titles at Marvel Comics including, among many others, A+X, Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers vs. X-Men, New Avengers, Secret Invasion, Sentry, Siege, Thor, Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine, X-Force, and X-Men. He has also done work for DC Comics on titles like Action Comics, Batman/Superman, JLA, New Suicide Squad, Prez, and Superman: The Man of Steel. He was also awarded the Harvey Award for Best Inker in 2009 and 2011.

Brandon Peterson has been a professional illustrator for over 20 years, working primarily as a penciller and inker, but often as a colorist, writer, editor, and art director. He has done a great deal of work at Marvel Comics, as the artist on books like AvX, Avengers, The Ultimates, Ultimate Vision, Ultimate Extinction, Ultimate X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, X-Men, and Uncanny X-Men. Brandon was also VP of Special Projects and Art Director of the now-defunct CrossGen Comics, where he created titles like Mystic and Chimera. He is also a veteran of Top Cow Productions, having worked on Codename: Strykeforce, Cyberforce, Ripclaw, Medieval Spawn/Witchblade, and his own book, Arcanum. His work is recently featured on IDW’s Revolution Heroes and DC Comics’ Trinity.
