Baltimore Screening Pass-palooza – “Halloween Ends”!

Ready for the final nail in Michael’s coffin? (She said hopefully…) Synopsis!

In this unexpected final chapter, set four years after the events of last year’s Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and is finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers hasn’t been seen since. Laurie, after allowing the specter of Michael to determine and drive her reality for decades, has decided to liberate herself from fear and rage and embrace life. But when a young man, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell; The Hardy Boys, Virgin River), is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t control, once and for all.

TrailerWatch – be nice or Santa’ll kick your tinsel in “Violent Night”

Yeah yeah yeah. I hate it when Christmas tries to muscle in on my Hallo-MONTH. But this film looks like an absolute trip. Santa meets Die Hard? Sign me up. Synopsis!

To hell with “all is calm.” From 87North, the bare-knuckle producers of Nobody, John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Bullet Train and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw comes a coal-dark holiday action-comedy that says you should always bet on red.

When a team of mercenaries breaks into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage, the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus (David Harbour, Black Widow, Stranger Things series) is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.

Violent Night slides into theaters December 2nd, 2022.

Hallo-MONTH: AFan recommends “In Search of Darkness”!

What is this?: Documentary
Year Released: 2019
Where Can You Find This?: Shudder

Yes, this doc is over four hours long. I am aware of this commitment. Darkness is an absolutely excellent look at 80s horror, from a year – by – year breakdown of the films of the era, to deep dives into horror scores, Final Girls (and Horror Heroes), and so much more.

But the real fun is listening to the interviewees talk about the topic at hand. Legendary horror creators, performers, and fans (damn if Slipknot’s Corey Taylor doesn’t come up with some seriously “dude YES” moments for me. Dude, I wanna horror marathon with you for real.)

Darkness is a perfect “put this on in the background” party film. Not only will it start up tons of great debates/conversation topics, but folks can come and go, checking it out as they like. Any time you tune in, you’ll be entertained and informed. *chef’s kiss*

In Queue Review – The Munsters (2022)

[I’m not even gonna put a quote in the quote part. Not one line in this film is worth it.]

Genre: Strange Homages To Classic TV
Release Date: 2022
Where I Watched: Netflix

Gist: Oh c’mon. You wouldn’t be reading this review if you didn’t know the Munsters. But you know the already settled family at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. How’d they get there? This film’ll show you.

Talky talk: I was stoked when I heard Rob Zombie was going to do a spin on The Munsters. But now I’m just disappointed. I appreciate his attempt, and it’s obvious by his attention to detail that he’s a huge fan of the original series, but this Munsters is weird in a bad way. Scenes feel stretched out for no reason except to pad the run time. Dialogue is clunky, and while the actors try their best, jokes don’t land, and are drawn out until any bit of humor is beaten out of them. (See: previous sentence.)

“Bros” – a modern day fairy tale that’ll get to you with a wink and a smile

“Hey. What’s up.”

Story: Bobby is a guy who’s big dream is getting NYC’s LGBTQ+ Museum off the ground, but his personal life is a train wreck. Aaron is a guy who’s lawyering his way through life, but his personal life is a train wreck. Can these two extremely commitment-phobic fellas figure out that they’re made for each other? (It’s a rom-com, hon. Guess.)

Genre I’d put it in: Opposites Attract But This Time GAAAAAY
Release Date: 2022
Remake, Sequel, Based-On, or Original: Harks back to rom-coms of the 90s and early aughts, but is a fresh take on tropes in this well-worn genre.

Gotta say: I am pre-disposed to absolutely love rom-coms. It’s something to do with the happily-ever-after (HEA) I think. Something that rarely seems to happen in real life, but always does in this genre. So, naturally, I enjoyed the ever-lovin’ hell outta Bros. From its in-your-face self aware cheekiness to the actual “shut up, you’re crying” moments, to the inevitable (and super adorable) HEA, Bros is a film that earns a place in this genre. Even though it’s always slyly letting you know that they’re in on the fun, and hey isn’t this a blast? Yes, Bros. Yes it is.

Baltimore Screening Pass-palooza – “Bros”!

Ready for some laughs? ME TOO. Synopsis!

This fall, Universal Pictures proudly presents the first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men maybe, possibly, probably, stumbling towards love. Maybe. They’re both very busy.

From the ferocious comic mind of Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street, 2019’s The Lion King, Difficult People, Impeachment: American Crime Story) and the hitmaking brilliance of filmmakers Nicholas Stoller (the Neighbors films, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Judd Apatow (The King of Staten Island, Trainwreck, The Big Sick), comes Bros, a smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy about how hard it is to find another tolerable human being to go through life with.
