TrailerWatch – “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” goes “Straight to Hell” in this Season 3 music video teaser!

“When it comes to love I’m going straight to Hell”

Kiernan Shipka (aka Sabrina Spellman) channels her inner 60s pop group demon, and I’ll be dammed if this isn’t one helluva catchy tune. The hook is gonna getcha, that’s for sure.

So is the way this video drops tidbits from the upcoming season, including lots of blood and a whole lot of scary situations. But hey – Nick wearing leather pants and chains! And Madam Satan sure looks comfy in her crown…

Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina season 3 comes to your door January 24th. Til then? Let’s dance!

“Underwater” – a mix of genre favorites blended into a story we’ve seen before

“I love Moon Pies!” [ed: who doesn’t?]

Story: A deep sea underwater research and drilling facility gets hit with a series of earthquakes that leave only six people alive after the devastation. But wait just a minute…what’s that in the water? THAT WAS NO EARTHQUAKE Y’ALL.

Genre I’d put it in: Bland But Watchable Genre Rehash

Remake, Sequel, Based-On, or Original: While you’ll notice “homages” to many creature features here, this film is an original. Continue reading

TrailerWatch – Netflix’s “Locke & Key” drops trailer!

“Welcome to Key House!”

An absolutely terrific comic book series – written by Horns and NOS4A2 author Joe Hill, no less – comes to Netflix, and here’s just a taste. Things look like they’re leaning more toward fantasy than straight up horror, but I can hardly wait to see more. Synopsis!

After their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, which they discover is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death. As the Locke children explore the different keys and their unique powers, a mysterious demon awakens — and will stop at nothing to steal them. From Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Meredith Averill (The Haunting of Hill House), the series is a coming-of-age mystery about love, loss, and the unshakable bonds that define family.

Locke & Key opens up on Netflix February 2nd, 2020.

Baltimore Screening Pass-palooza – “Troop Zero” (with special guest & B’more native, Milan Ray!)

Ready for a sweet story about going for what you want? (Perfect for January’s resolutions, eh?) Sure, you could wait to see it on Prime…but why not see it on the Science Center’s big screen? And with one of the stars of the film, Milan Ray! Synopsis!

In a tiny Georgia town in 1977, a motherless girl dreams of life beyond the confines of her trailer-park home in Troop Zero. When her quest for connection leads her to reach for the stars in a competition to be included on NASA’s landmark Golden Record, it becomes clear she will have to depend on some new friends to take her the last mile.

Every night, Christmas Flint (Mckenna Grace) sits under a starry sky with a flashlight, signaling to extraterrestrial visitors that never arrive. Sensitive, imaginative and deeply lonely, Christmas and her equally eccentric best friend Joseph are the ultimate misfits in their rural hometown of Wiggly, Georgia. When Christmas learns that the winners of the annual Birdie Scout Jamboree talent contest will be included on a recording to be sent into space for posterity, her mission in life becomes to join the Scouts and win Jamboree.

When she is blackballed by the snobbish local Birdie Scout troop and their uptight leader Miss Massey (Allison Janney), Christmas rallies a group of elementary-school outliers to start their own chapter. With grudging help from her dad’s irascible office manager, Miss Rayleen (Viola Davis), Christmas and her crew have to bypass every roadblock Miss Massey can find in the fine print of the Birdie bylaws in order to reach the Jamboree and their chance at immortality.

Happy New Year’s Eve-Eve!

Sorry I’ve been MIA. I’ve been holiday-ing. I really need to eat a vegetable.

But I have seen The Rise of Skywalker (liked it well enough) and The Irishman (appreciated the story, but y’all it was A Slog). And hey – I even finally caught Midsommar (excellent, but some may find the slow burn pacing glacial).

Anyway, if you’re down with the Ramones and find yourself up at midnight tonight, crank up “I Wanna Be Sedated”. And a huge thank you to whoever first came up with this!
