Oh heck yeah y’all – I’m all in. From Frank sharpening his knife to serious casings hitting the ground, Punisher is gonna be a slam-bang actionfest of awesome. Using Metallica’s “One” is perfect vibe for Frank Castle kicking ass and taking names.

Check it out, and get pumped. Now if you’ll excuse me I’ma watch this trailer. Again.

Small Press Expo photo wrapup: Con Crud Edition

It’s the Wednesday after last weekend’s amazing Small Press Expo, and I had an absolute blast! I also caught a mean case of the Con Crud, which has had me flatbacked ever since Saturday night.

So, to make sure y’all know that I had a blast (let’s not discuss how much money I spent… I NEEDED THAT SIGNED GAIMAN!) I’ve decided to go ahead and post some pics. The political cartoonist panel was fabulous, and yeah you’re bummed you missed it. Plus, I got to chat with a whole bunch of creators – dig the groovy stuff they publish in the pics below.

Go forth, and enjoy! Or, better yet, read some indie comics!

Alrighty folks – ’tis the week of Baltimore Comic-Con, and I’m stoked to get to the convention center this weekend!  I’ve got a wicked case of Con Crud from hitting Small Press Expo last weekend, but I’m hoping to at least get there for one day…but I’m pushing for two, and hoping for a hat trick. #allthecoldmeds

Want to get ready, and max out your con experience?  Well, here’s the 411 from the BCC staff, with all the news that’s fit to print.  (I second the idea of using Parking Panda if you’re driving up.  Parking can be…a chore around here.)

See you at the con!

Baltimore Screening Pass-palooza: “Friend Request”

I don’t know about you, but I’m already stoked that Halloween is coming.  Yes, next month.  The end of next month.  But it’s so close you can taste the PSL, amirite?  (Seriously, pumpkin spice everything is already here.  You know what to do.)

So I’ve been streaming horror movies like crazy, gearing up for my yearly “31 in 31” in October…but I’ve also got passes to some spooky.  Passes to Friend Request, in fact.  Which may make you re-think your social media presence… Synopsis!

Popular college student Laura (Alycia Debnam-Carey) has tons of friends, both on Facebook and IRL. She graciously accepts social outcast Marina’s (Liesl Ahlers) online friend request, until Marina crosses the line and Laura unfriends her. To everyone’s shock, Marina takes her own life in a ritual meant to torment Laura, which appears in a video posted on Laura’s profile. Even though it wasn’t Laura who posted the video, or other creepy content that begins appearing on her page, her Facebook friend count begins to dwindle as a result. When her real-life friends start dying mysterious, cruel deaths, Laura must figure out how to break the deadly curse before it’s too late.

Ready?  Let’s go!

Baltimore Screening Pass-palooza – “Kingsman: The Golden Circle”!

Colin Firth is back, baby!  And I’ve got passes to see him and the rest of the Kingsman crew (including newcomers Channing Tatum and Julianne Moore!) in Kingsman: The Golden Circle.  But first, of course, synopsis!

“Kingsman: The Secret Service” introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…

I can’t stop staring at Taron Egerton’s/Eggsy’s orange velvet dinner jacket with lust in my heart.  I know I’d rock it.  Right?  Right.  Ready for your martini, Mr. Bond?   Continue reading

“The Mountain Between Us” first clip released!

Y’all know I love me some Idris.  I also think that Kate Winslet is an amazing actress.  So when I heard that there was a movie starring both these fine performers?  Well, I couldn’t pass that one up, could I?  NO.  No I couldn’t.  That movie is The Mountain Between Us, and the first sneak-peek has been released.  But first? Synopsis!

Stranded after a tragic plane crash, two strangers must forge a connection to survive the extreme elements of a remote snow covered mountain. When they realize help is not coming, they embark on a perilous journey across hundreds of miles of wilderness, pushing one another to endure and discovering strength they never knew possible. The film is directed by Academy Award nominee Hany Abu-Assad and stars Academy Award winner Kate Winslet and Golden Globe winner Idris Elba.

The trailer looks intense, and this clip shows Elba and Winslet at a time when their characters are getting real about their chances of survival.  The Mountain Between Us opens October 6th, 2017.

“It” floats just as well as the original

Nutshell: This reboot/remake of the 1990 TV miniseries has a different feel to it, but dammit if it doesn’t pack a punch.  A young cast full of poised-to-break-out stars, a director who knows how to handle the spooky, and a killer score adds up to a film horror hounds will be welcoming with open arms.  We all float here, and the water’s fine. Grade: A-

“Welcome to the Losers Club!”

Story: Derry, Maine is your typical sleepy little American town.  Except for the fact that kids go missing every 27 years.  A LOT of kids go missing every 27 years.  Nobody in town seems to really notice, or pay it much mind though. That seems legit.  But when a group of tween outcasts realize they’re all seeing similar spooky things?  They band together to take down Pennywise the Dancing Clown.  Yeah clown.  Yep, creeps me the hell out too. Baltimore Screening Pass-palooza: “American Assassin”!

Just in time for cooler temperatures outside, a spy caper is coming to town to give you chills.  The good kind!  I’ve got passes for American Assassin, if you’re feeling spy-y.  And who isn’t?  Synopsis!

AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War.

I’ve enjoyed watching O’Brien since Teen Wolf, so it’ll be cool seeing him as a Secret Agent Man.  And c’mon, a double-up with Keaton will be good times, methinks. Think so too?  Well then, let’s go!
