“All Eyez on Me” behind-the-scenes sneak peek comes to Mondawmin Mall!

I don’t know about you, but when I first saw the trailer for Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me, I gasped.  As Tupac, Demetrius Shipp, Jr. is the spitting image.  So if you’re like me and want to know more about the film?  Well, I’ve got you covered.  There’s a “state of the art mobile cinema” coming to Baltimore May 26th, to give fans a behind-the scenes look at the film.  Synopsis!

ALL EYEZ ON ME tells the true and untold story of prolific rapper, actor, poet and activist Tupac Shakur. The film follows Shakur from his early days on the East Coast to his evolution into being one of the world’s most recognized and influential voices before his untimely death at the age of 25. Against all odds, Shakur’s raw talent, powerful lyrics and revolutionary mind-set propelled him into becoming a cultural icon whose legacy continues to grow long after his passing. ALL EYEZ ON ME stars Demetrius Shipp, Jr. as Tupac Shakur alongside Kat Graham, Lauren Cohan, Hill Harper, Jamal Woolard and Danai Gurira.

So if you’ll be at Mondawmin Mall that day, check it out.  Or maybe head over there just to check it out?  Hey, no judgement here.  Sounds like a cool time.

Guy Ritchie’s “King Arthur” is a walk on the wild side of Camelot

Nutshell: Arthurian Legend as heist caper.  Ritchie’s take on the legends of Arthur and the gang is more gang and less legend as he fashions his tale for the 21st Century. Strap in for the usual Ritchie dizzying jump cut sequences and fast paced action, and leave any idea of Le Morte d’Arthur at the door. This Arthur has about as much historical significance as A Knight’s Tale or Clash of the Titans, but all the throw-down you’d expect from a Ritchie joint, and the cast is game as hell. Grade: B

“You’re quickly becoming a legend.”

Story: Arthur, a tough that grew up on the streets of Londinium, finds out that he’s actually the son of King Uther Pendragon (may he rest in peace.)  Great news, right?  WRONG; Arthur’s Uncle Vortimer holds the throne, and will do anything to keep it.  Can Arthur, a group of wayward fighters, lone mage that talks to animals, and one groovy sword take over?  Um, the film’s called KING Arthur. So… Continue reading

Elsewhere Review: Melissa Sweet’s Some Writer! The Story of E.B. White

Read the original piece RIGHT HERE at The Green Man Review!

I have to admit, I worried I didn’t know enough about E.B. White to do justice to this book.  I’m a huge fan of Charlotte’s Web; but who isn’t?  Though I needn’t have worried; Sweet did all the work for me, and beautifully too. For anyone else who wonders if a book about a writer they remember from childhood tales (and perhaps that Freshman English guide) may be outside of their bailiwick?  I say dig in.  With Some Writer!, Sweet has made the author’s life come alive. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself wrapped up in the wonder of it all, just as much as your friendly neighborhood little ones will be.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” gives more awesome and MOAR GROOT

Because 1) this is the best damn poster ever, and 2) y’all know what the Guardians look like. So, GROOT!

Nutshell: Hey, remember how Guardians of the Galaxy was an amazeballs kickass good time?  Well, get ready for more of the same.  The gang is a more cohesive unit this go-round, and the set design and FX are a trippy blend of the first film and Doctor Strange‘s far-out multiverse.  Good times y’all.  Or, as a certain twig would say; I am Groot!  Grade: A

“That was awesome!  Yes!”

Story: Those bunch of a-holes are still doing their thing, with the usual blend of success, failure, and screw-ups.  But things really go nuts when Star Lord’s dad Ego (because of course) enters the picture.  Can the gang sort out their issues, figure out what’s up with Ego, and dodge the inevitable throng of folks gunning for their hides? GROOT! Continue reading

TrailerWatch: “The Dark Tower” first look!

Nothing like waking up to Idris Elba and Stephen King. Especially when it’s thanks to the first look at The Dark Tower, the film adaptation/sequel to the Dark Tower series. Synopsis!

There are other worlds than these. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.

Two things really get me pumped for this film; the fact that Roland has the Horn of Eld this time around, and that after this film, a miniseries is in the works.  The Dark Tower hits theaters August 4th, 2017.
