Elsewhere Review: Trader Joe’s Organic Hot Cocoa Mix

Read the original HERE at The Green Man Review!

I love books.  I love music.  I absolutely adore beer.  And when the cool breezes start to blow, I need hot chocolate.  It’s a requirement around here. So when I got some “TJ’s” cocoa in the mail, I rushed to my kitchen to brew up a pot of hot water.  I really liked what happened next.

For my fellow chocolate junkies, this instant cocoa delivers.  There’s a RUSH of chocolate here, from the delicious smell as I ripped open the packet, to the final sip. This is serious cocoa, y’all. Continue reading

Sick Day Review: Gus Russo’s thoughts on “The Disaster Artist”!

Some days are icky, coughy, hacky bleah days. On those days, I skip the theater so I don’t infect anyone, and ask a friend to take the reins.  Today the lovely and talented Gus Russo will be doing the honors for The Disaster Artist.  Take it away, Gus!

***

The one-sheet should say: “James Franco IS Tommy Wiseau.”

He has down all the mannerisms, from the arch to the most subtle, to the timing (as the post movie credit clips attest.) Continue reading

Happy little…Deadpool?  That’s right y’all.  Deadpool the artist, drawing happy little trees, with a happy little afro.

Yeah, I saw this teaser trailer/art class yesterday too.  But I couldn’t resist sharing again.  Because where else are you gonna learn now to beat off…your art brushes?  What?  Perverts.

And am I the only one who’s hoping “Untitled Deadpool Sequel” will be the official title? D2 hits theaters June 1, 2018!

“Justice League” – the DCU takes a (small) step back

Nutshell: A game cast can’t hide wobbly pacing and a bare-bones plot.  While it’s great to see the gang finally together, Whedon’s lackluster script and Snyder’s lackluster directing cements my belief that like the MCU, DC needs to tap other creators for fresh ideas. You’ll get a better film.  See: Wonder WomanGrade: B-

“Alll-right.”

I’m gonna break with my usual “7 Pieces Of” format here, because what I’ve got to say won’t take long.  No no no, things aren’t as dire as you might expect from that last sentence.  It’s just that as with the film Justice League, I don’t have much to say.

Baltimore Screening Pass-palooza: “Roman J. Israel, Esq.”!

I’ve got passes for the latest Denzel Washington film, Roman J. Israel, Esq., and I’m dying to share ’em!  Check out the trailer.  Me, I’m in it just for the soundtrack (and what is looking like an incredible performance by Washington, natch.) Want more?  Of course… Synopsis!

Roman J. Israel, Esq. is a dramatic thriller set in the underbelly of the overburdened Los Angeles criminal court system. Denzel Washington stars as a driven, idealistic defense attorney whose life is upended when a turbulent series of events challenge the activism that has defined his career. Colin Farrell costars as the ambitious, monied lawyer who recruits Roman to his firm.

TrailerWatch: “The Greatest Showman”

“Everybody’s got an act.”

Planning your holiday movie watching?  Well, I’ve got a trailer for the Hugh Jackman musical The Greatest Showman, and it looks like it’ll be a lot of fun. It’s a look at how P.T. Barnum started his famous “Greatest Show On Earth”!

While I’m not a fan of La La Land, I dug several of the songs.  The same lyricists wrote the songs here, and their Busby Berkley-esque musical numbers totally work with the fantasy elements of Barnum (& Bailey).  Maybe it just took a different director with a better vision…?

The Greatest Showman hits theaters everywhere on December 20, 2017!

Baltimore Screening Pass-palooza: “Last Flag Flying”!

Welcome to a new week!  I’ve got passes for Last Flag Flying, a bittersweet comedy starring Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston and Laurence Fishburne. The trailer looks great, and who can ignore such an incredible cast?  Synopsis!

In 2003, three decades after a tour of duty in Vietnam, soft-spoken New Hampshire family man Larry “Doc” Shepherd (Steve Carell) surprises alcoholic Former Marine Sal Nealon (Bryan Cranston) when he shows up at his bar in Norfolk, Virginia. Together they visit their formerly wild comrade-in-arms Richard Mueller (Laurence Fishburne) at the church where he now serves as pastor. Soon after, Doc reveals that his son, a Marine, has been killed in Iraq. He asks his two friends to accompany him on a road trip to attend the young man’s burial at Arlington Cemetery.
