TrailerWatch: new “Jojo Rabbit Trailer shows the problem of hating what you don’t know

Right from the auf Deutch version of The Monkee’s “I’m a Believer”, you know you’re in for some tongue-in-cheek fun. But this new trailer for Jojo Rabbit also shows that this film will be addressing lots of heavy stuff too, especially when young Jojo realizes that his mother (Scarlet Johansson) has given shelter to a young Jewish girl…

Jojo Rabbit hits theaters October 18th, 2019. You ready? I am.

Elsewhere Review: Sukkerfri Dent Duett: Berry + Licorice Pastilles

Originally published on The Green Man Review!

I’m an unabashed fan of black licorice. I’ve tasted (and reviewed) lots of different styles, from salty to sweet, and even covered in chocolate. (Don’t knock ’em ’til you’ve tried ’em y’all.) But licorice and berries? No, not berry flavored licorice. A mashup of black licorice and berry flavors. For those days when you can’t seem to make up your mind on what kind of taste you’re craving – which for me is just about every single day of my life – Duet has an equal amount of sweet and sweetly savory. And I’m a fan. Continue reading

Blu-Ray Review: “Dead Don’t Die in Dallas”

“TROMBIES!!!”

A zombie movie from the folks that gave us Ticked Off Trannies With Knives? Hell yeah I’m watching this. If you’re a lover of good & goofy homemade horror – and who isn’t? – you’ll have a blast with Dallas.

This film starts with one of my favorite quotes, racking up the points in my book. (Though the film attributes it to Plato, others have been credited with spouting it, including Ian Maclaren, John Watson, and more…but it’s a great quote whoever it originally came from.) Anyway, on to the zombies! Continue reading

TrailerWatch – “American Horror Story: 1984” kicks off Season 9

“Nothin’ but good memories about this place.”

YESSS! It’s here! It’s here! The first trailer for the 9th season of AHS! And damn y’all. Hair metal, spandex, Aqua Net, and so much more. Looks like it will, in fact, be a summer-camp slasher story, complete with a creepy killer. “Mr. Jingles”? Nope, don’t want to meet that guy.

Bummer there’ll be no no Sarah Paulson or Evan Peters, but I can’t wait to see what’s in store for our game cast! (How much do I adore Leslie Grossman’s winged hair? SO MUCH.)

Enjoy y’all!

In LUCY IN THE SKY, Natalie Portman plays Lucy Cola, a strong woman whose determination and drive as an astronaut take her to space, where she’s deeply moved by the transcendent experience of seeing her life from afar. Back home as Lucy’s world suddenly feels too small, her connection with reality slowly unravels.

Lucy in the Sky lands later this year.

Say “I do” to “Ready or Not”

“It’s not too late to flee. You’re not a part of this family yet. I mean that as a compliment.”

Story: A woman’s wedding day is wonderful. The night is even better. (winkwinknudgenudgeknowwhattamean) But Grace’s wedding night is a doozy; seems the crazy rich family she’s married into plays a game every time a new family member joins their ranks. And this time it’s a most dangerous game indeed. Countdown starts…

Genre I’d put it in: Bloody Good Horror Comedies (emphasis on bloody)

Remake, Sequel, Based-On, or Original: Hints of other films, but this one’s all new.

Elsewhere Review: Folkmanis’ Winged Dragon Puppet

Originally published over at The Green Man Review!

Yes, I’m still tetchy about the final season of Game of Thrones. But I still love dragons, especially poor Viserion, Dany’s green dragon she’d named after her brother. (Shoulda spotted that foreshadowing a mile away, but noooooo.) I’ve always had a soft spot for green dragons; blame it on the Harper Hall series from Anne McCaffrey. Yes, those are technically fire lizards, but when I saw the Folkmanis Winged Dragon Puppet, my thoughts immediately went to Pern. Continue reading

Malick! Biopic! Crazyness? Hey, Tree of Life was nuts, but The Thin Red Line was incredible. So? You be the judge… Synopsis!

Based on real events, from visionary writer-director Terrence Malick, A HIDDEN LIFE is the story of unsung hero, Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II. When the Austrian peasant farmer is faced with the threat of execution for treason, it is his unwavering faith and his love for his wife Fani and children that keeps his spirit alive.
