“Ad Astra” – Pitt goes to the stars

“We are world eaters.”

Story: Roy is a second generation astronaut. Roy is very driven. Roy is a jerk. When Roy finds out that his father Clifford – presumed dead from an accident in space – may actually be alive, a classified mission is put together. Why? Becuase Cliff may have gone off his nut and could be trying to destroy our world. Suit up, Roy.

Genre I’d put it in: Cosmic Mind Trips

Remake, Sequel, Based-On, or Original: Original, but you’ll feel homages to classic sci-fi space stories. Continue reading

“Downton Abbey” gives fans the royal treatment

“I do love our adventures.”

Story: It’s 1927, but at Downton Abbey things are still rolling on in the traditional way, no matter how beautifully on trend Lady Mary fashions herself. But when the King and Queen of England decide to pay a visit to Downton – it’s a brief stopover during their trip to see Princess Mary don’t you know – everything gets dialed up to eleven. Including familial feuds, Downstairs jockeying, and…intrigue!

Genre I’d put it in: Beautifully Successful TV Continuations Continue reading

“Doesn’t money make you horny?”

Story: Destiny is beautiful, in her twenties, and broke as hell.  So why not dance at an adult club? More money than she’d make anywhere else…much, much more. DVD Review: “Becoming Evil – Serial Killers” series

This seven part documentary series is about as icky as the serial killers themselves. Evil tries for a feel similar to Leonard Nimoy in In Search Of or Robert Stack in Unsolved Mysteries, but the narrator has too much of a sensational vibe, from the mocking tone used when the narrator voices a killers actual words, to the heavy-handed narrative. Example: a pair of killers are said to have “…turned on each other like the animals they were.” It’s a strange niche this series is trying for; too hyperbolic for documentary fans, but not tabloid enough for the more hard core serial killer fan. (I’m glad about that last bit, actually.) Continue reading

DVD Review: House Of Hell 4 movie set

Mill Creek Entertainment released four SyFy originals to DVD, so folks can watch ’em anytime they like. Is that a good thing? Well, for the most part, it actually is. Let’s take a look at these four films, perfect for a Halloween Season binge-watch. Each film has a general haunted house theme, tying the films together. Who doesn’t love a theme?

But first? HOLY BLIP THE PLASTIC REEKS. I had to put the case outside immediately upon opening. Phew! Sorry, had to say that. Keep the cover in an open area, or else you’ll get all sorts of ooked out by the chemical stench. Luckily, it vanished overnight. Okay, let’s do this. Continue reading

TrailerWatch “Black Christmas” 2019 gets some girl power

“You messed with the wrong sisters.”

The original Black Christmas is a horror classic. The 2006 remake? Not so much. But this Blumhouse reboot has my interest piqued. A twist on the killer(s) and the why of it all feels fresh. Not to mention the smarts these new girls are packing. Synopsis!

Hawthorne College is quieting down for the holidays. But as Riley Stone (Imogen Poots, Green Room) and her Mu Kappa Epsilon sisters-athlete Marty (Lily Donoghue, The CW’s Jane the Virgin), rebel Kris (Aleyse Shannon, The CW’s Charmed), and foodie Jesse (Brittany O’Grady, Fox’s Star)-prepare to deck the halls with a series of seasonal parties, a black-masked stalker begins killing sorority women one by one.

Whoever the killer is, he’s about to discover that this generation’s young women aren’t about to be anybody’s victims.

This Black Christmas hits theaters December 13th, 2019.

TrailerWatch “GRETEL & HANSEL” gives a classic tale a chillingly modern twist

…Or perhaps it’s just the bloody old world style that’s been reintroduced? Dang y’all – the original versions of most fairy tales are harsh. H&G give me serious The Witch vibes with its deeply unsettling, claustrophobic atmosphere. Synopsis!

A long time ago in a distant fairytale countryside, a young girl leads her little brother into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil.

Gretel & Hansel comes to your village January 2020.
